The Emden / Leer University of Applied Sciences has compiled information for first-semester students for all faculties. You will find: dates, information on finding a room at the university, health insurance during your studies and BAföG (Federal Training Assistance Act) as well as information on semester fees.
The Student Service Centre (SSC) is also available to answer any questions you may have.
When and how do I start?
- Studies begin in the winter semester towards the middle of September for all students.
- We organise an introductory week exclusively for first-semester students one week before the start of their studies.
- Participation is not compulsory. However, you will get to know all the other first-semester students. We have breakfast, celebrate and get a taste of university life.
- In addition, our maths pre-course is integrated here. This means a small and relaxed review of the maths material from school. Taught by the great Katrin Stern, who not only does excellent sailing, but also teaches maths so well that you immediately understand what you need it for in your studies. There are no grades here, just knowledge that makes life easier.
- Regular studies begin on the following Monday.

- In the summer semester, everything is a bit smaller, but you are of course just as welcome.
- Here, we welcome you on the first day of the semester and give you all the help you need for a successful start. In addition, our maths pre-course is integrated here.
