Interreg 2023: Praktikum international in NL

Interreg-Projekt 2023: Internship in a nearby foreign country for national and international students of the HS-EL

For students of HSEL it is often obvious to do an internship in a neighboring country like the Netherlands. This is also possible without any problems. However, our non-European students face bureaucratic challenges regarding residence and work permits.

This is where the Interreg project "Development of the ICD-HS/EL ecosystem" comes in and aims to develop a procedure that simplifies the bureaucratic process for non-European students at the University of Applied Sciences Emden/Leer to carry out internships and final theses in Dutch companies of the Innovatiecluster Drachten (ICD). This is intended to keep international professionals in the region and increase the attractiveness of the HS/EL's international degree programs.

But not only that: the necessity of the project also arises from the fact that international students in the region have difficulties finding an internship or job on the German side. This is often due to the fact that the predominantly medium-sized business structure in eastern frisia cannot yet accommodate purely English-speaking employees in sufficient numbers.

In this context, the lCD, as an experienced internship organization with about 250 internships per year and with 45 nationalities in house, can not only provide the international students of HSEL with internships and potential jobs, but all other students of the university naturally have the opportunity to benefit from this German-Dutch cooperation and get to know the job market on the other side of the region.

With the help of the IWCN, the international center of the northern Netherlands, it will be possible within the project to eliminate the problems arising from the fact that the students come from non-EU countries of origin and only have permits for studying and internships in Germany.

Interreg-Project 2023: Development of the ICD-HS/EL ecosystem

The project focuses on the following target groups:

  • Students of primarily technical disciplines of the HSEL who are planning an internship and/or a thesis
  • International students of HSEL from non-european countries who encounter bureaucratic obstacles due to work or residence permits when they want to complete an internship and/or a thesis in the EDR region, e.g. the northern Netherlands.

The latest safari/specialized excursion within the project for students to companies of the ICD took place on September 22, 2023, the next safari is planned for the 23th of april 2024.
