Your Degree Program with a Focus on Production Engineering

Your bachelor’s degree program in Mechanical Engineering and Design—Production Engineering lasts 7 semesters. During the bachelor’s program, you will first study the fundamentals of mathematics, design, materials science, manufacturing technology, and computer science. Later, you’ll add technical subjects such as production machinery, quality assurance, and automation technology, as well as business-related courses like production planning and control and factory planning. Courses in project management are also part of the production engineering program.

In your subsequent Master’s program in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Applied Sciences Emden/Leer, you can further deepen the specializations you chose during your Bachelor’s program or focus on other subject areas. In addition to production engineering courses, you’ll also choose from related subjects such as production management or materials science.

Manufacturing Processes

The selection and design of manufacturing processes play a key role in the quality and cost-effectiveness of industrial production. You will learn about the most important shaping, machining, ablative, additive, and forming manufacturing processes. In addition, you will explore joining and coating processes, as well as methods for modifying material properties. A wide range of application examples brings the theoretical fundamentals to life.

Production Machinery

Machine tools are among the most important means of production in industry. Their design and degree of automation are as diverse as their range of applications. Due to the high performance and precision requirements, optimal design of machine components is crucial. You need comprehensive knowledge of the physical properties of components, machine elements, and drives, as well as their control and regulation systems.

Automation Technology for Cyber-Physical Systems

Automated production systems form the foundation of highly efficient and highly precise manufacturing processes for both large- and small-scale production runs. As you progress through the automation pyramid, you will learn about mechatronic systems ranging from the sensor/actuator level and the control level all the way up to the supervisory level. The course covers the various types of control systems and their programming methods, as well as drive types and methods for process and status monitoring.

Business Engineering

We’ll teach you the fundamentals of managing industrial companies.

The core tools of the trade are current theories, methods, and management tools for the areas of business modeling and business processes, technology management, innovation management, investment planning, and production management—all of which are essential at every management level in industrial companies.

Factory Planning

Global competition, broad production programs, and discontinuities pose challenges for manufacturing companies when planning their production facilities. In addition to traditional resource, layout, and logistics planning, production engineering expertise includes selecting appropriate production sites, designing suitable production, material flow, and logistics systems, and using the appropriate planning tools.

 

Production Organization and Systematics

Manufacturing companies rely on lean processes and structures in core areas such as design, work planning, materials management, production, assembly, and quality assurance, as well as cross-functional tasks such as information management and cost accounting. We extend this scope beyond the boundaries of the company to address topics such as customer relationship management, supply chain management, and enterprise resource planning, among others.
