Specialisation "Automation Technology"

The specialisation "Automation Technology" is embedded in a full study of electrical engineering. If you would like to shaping the future of industry 4.0, digitalization and the constantly increasing degree of automation in your professional environment, then this specialization offers you the ideal professional orientation. The industry still has a high demand for automation engineers who are able to master the increasingly complex and flexible production structures with their intelligent control mechanisms.

"Automation Technology" is a specialisation of the technical study courses Electrical Engineering and Electrical Engineering in a practical combination. Here you will acquire a fully-fledged electrical engineering education and additional sound knowledge in the field of automation technology. Your additional technical knowledge is supplemented by knowledge in the field of electrical drives and control and simulation. In the course of the fourth industrial revolution, the demand from industry in all areas for such qualified specialists is still very high.

The "Automation Engineering" specialisation is embedded in the 5th and 6th semesters of the Electrical Engineering degree programme or in the 7th and 8th semesters of the Electrical Engineering in a practical combination degree programme. The specialisation comprises the modules "Automation Systems 1", "Automation Systems 2", "Control and Simulation" and "Electrical Drives". In the 7th semester you can further deepen your knowledge in the field of automation technology within the framework of a practical phase and complete your studies with a bachelor thesis.

  • Automation systems 1

You will learn the basics of automation technology as well as the characteristics and suitability of various automation systems. You will learn the basics of automation technology as well as the characteristics and suitability of different automation systems.

  • Automation systems 2

You will learn to understand a typical, complex automation system and how to use it practically. You will penetrate in-depth questions (especially the topic of safety in automation technology) with the help of practical applications.

  • Control and Simulation

You will acquire comprehensive knowledge in process analysis and simulation as well as practical experience in control engineering. You will also learn how to use a CAE system.

  • Electric drives

You will learn the basics of electrical drive technology and how to apply them independently to application examples. You will learn to understand and evaluate goals that are pursued with optimum drive design.
