Teamwork in Practical Training

In the lab, hands-on training in a team setting is the top priority.

This allows students to build on the knowledge they’ve gained in production engineering lectures by working in small groups on project-based assignments.

State-of-the-art machinery and tools are available for this purpose—the same ones used in modern production.

These are ideal conditions for future job applications and starting a career!

 

Areas of Work

  • Cutting Processes and Systems

(turning, milling, grinding, EDM, …)

  • Forming and shaping processes and systems

(injection molding, extrusion, deep drawing, 3D printing, …)

  • Process Monitoring and Optimization

(CNC programming, data acquisition, …)

 

At the beginning of their studies, students gain hands-on experience with various aspects of manufacturing technology through experiments they design themselves, such as

  • optimization in injection molding
  • extrusion and deep drawing
  • cutting forces during turning
  • Process optimization in turning

Midway through the program, for example, students spend a semester focusing on process development in manufacturing engineering.

Using a CAD/CAM system, they plan and program the production process for a milled part to be manufactured on a modern 5-axis milling machine.

At the end of the project, students test the production process directly on the machine and verify and optimize the quality of the parts.

Toward the end of the program, students gain hands-on experience—in conjunction with their coursework—through complex experiments with various methods in the field of mechatronic production systems, such as the

  • accuracy verification of machine tools using a laser interferometer and other measurement systems
  • monitoring of machining processes using various sensor systems

Students thus have access to a modern and constantly updated laboratory for conducting exercises, projects, and bachelor’s and master’s theses in the field of manufacturing and production engineering.

At the same time, we collaborate with many industrial project partners:

  • Consulting for work planning and control
  • Machine measurement technology and process analysis
