Wind Challenge
In the "Wind Challenge" project, students work in an interdisciplinary manner on the development, construction and testing of a small wind turbine. The project creates an atmosphere in which students from a wide range of scientific disciplines can contribute their theoretical and practical knowledge. And not just in boring online video conferences, but by means of a concrete, challenging task!
Scientists4Future
We’ve had the Emden/Leer regional group of “Scientists for Future” since 2019. Scientists from various disciplines at the university want to raise awareness of the urgency of taking action against climate change. Members are active within the university, but are also available as contact persons for citizens from Emden/Leer and beyond, e.g. for lectures.

machbar - Zentrum für Begegnung und Nachhaltigkeit
Mitten in der Emder Innenstadt, in der Großen Straße 34, ist die Hochschule an einer sehr dynamischen Initiative intensiv beteiligt - dem Zentrum für Nachhaltigkeit und Begegnung “machbar“.
Die Ursprungsidee von machbar war, ein Ressourcenzentrum in der Emder Innenstadt zu schaffen, dass als Reallabor nachhaltigen und umfassenden Wandel in der lokalen Gemeinschaft ermöglicht. In einem wöchentlich aktiven Repair Café werden Geräte vor dem Wegwerfen bewahrt und wieder in den Umlauf gebracht- Aber es geht nicht nur um einem nachhaltigen Umgang mit Gegenständen, auch ein nachhaltiges und lebendiges Miteinander, in dem sich alle mit Ihren Stärken und Schwächen einbringen können, wird eingeübt.
machbar wird von verschiedenen Emder Institutionen getragen, die sich dafür einsetzen, die lokale Gemeinschaft zusammenzuführen und innovative, nachhaltige Lösungen zu entwickeln, die sowohl die Umwelt als auch das soziale und kulturelle Leben in Emden positiv beeinflussen: agilio gGmbH, Das Boot e.V., Evangelisch-reformierte Kirche, Hochschule Emden/Leer, die Fachdienste Gemeinwesen, Gesundheit und Soziales sowie der Fachdienst Umwelt der Stadt Emden, die BEE, das Citymanagement sowie der Verein Nachhaltige Entwicklung in Ostfriesland und der Welt, NEOW, e.V., UNICEF Deutschland – Lokalgruppe Ostfriesland.
Die Mitarbeit in machbar (Repair Café, Begegnungsangebote usw. ) ist für das N-Zertifikat anrechenbar!
