After successfully completing your studies, you will have interesting prospects when you start your professional life - in addition to direct entry into an attractive position, this can also include trainee programs, on-the-job training or an assistant position.

The average income for economists is between 35,000 and 45,000 euros per year. The job offers for economists come from all economic sectors of industry, trade, service, consulting as well as public administration and non-profit organizations.

Career goals for you could be, for example:

  • Managing Director
  • Human Resources Manager
  • Product manager
  • Project manager
  • Head of Controlling
  • Certified public accountant
  • Tax consultant

In the first three semesters you will acquire knowledge in the basics of business administration.

You will get an overview of the basic functions of companies (production, sales, financing, management) and acquire knowledge in the areas of accounting, economics and law. While learning languages and communication techniques, you train the so-called "soft skills".

In semesters 4 and 5, you can choose two specializations according to your personal interests and career goals in order to gain in-depth knowledge in these areas. In the elective subjects Project Management, Economic Policy as well as Business Law and Language you will deepen your basic knowledge from semesters 1 to 3. You will now predominantly study in even smaller groups, whereby the contents will be taught in a practical manner with the help of exercises, business games and case studies.

Before you write your Bachelor's thesis, you will spend the final 6th semester in practice: During a practical phase of at least 12 weeks, you will get to know the professional field "on the job" and apply the skills you have acquired there.

You will then write your Bachelor's thesis, for which you will have 8 weeks. If possible, your thesis will refer to the company where you worked during your practical phase and to a problem you solved there.

Your studies end with the submission of the bachelor thesis and the subsequent colloquium.

Lara:

From the beginning, I really enjoyed economic topics and looked around for a degree program in this regard. After some research, I decided on business administration instead of IBA because foreign languages have never been my strong point. The variety of modules and the possibility to specialize again through different focuses not only make the study interesting, but also ensures very good prospects for the future.

I come from a big city and the first time I heard the name Emden I thought, "Huh? Where is that?" That's why I set out to take a closer look at the city. I quickly realized how beautiful Emden is, everything is easily accessible on foot or by bike and the best, you are within a very short time at the North Sea and then also completely free! But not only the North Sea you can go with the semester ticket for free. Although the station is quite small and does not seem so, the connection is just great! You can travel to Hanover, Hamburg, Bremen, Rheine and many other cities for free.

In general, Emden is very student-friendly, because living in Emden is also very inexpensive, whether in one of the three student dormitories or in a shared apartment or even in your own apartment. Nevertheless, it must be said that the student dormitories are actually always cheaper than a private WG room.

But the biggest advantage of studying in Emden is that you study at a university. You have a stronger practical orientation than at a university. What does that mean exactly? You learn to apply theoretical knowledge through practical examples. Since our "classes" are also smaller, the lecturers can provide better and more intensive personal support. They make an effort to convey the subject matter logically and comprehensibly, and always have an open ear for questions. This makes studying at a university much more familiar. My conclusion: I have never regretted studying at the Emden/Leer University of Applied Sciences.
