The term "equality" stands for treating girls and boys equally, for example. Closely related to equality is "equal rights". Equality means that no one should be disadvantaged on the basis of gender. It doesn't matter whether it's a girl or a boy, for example - all people should be allowed to discover their potential and thus have the same opportunities. One example of unequal treatment is that girls often get less pocket money than boys. Girls are often responsible for taking care of younger siblings. Boys, on the other hand, are more likely to be assigned tasks such as helping in the garden or cleaning the car - activities for which they more often receive money as a reward. Even in adulthood, women often have less money available than men because, for example, they earn less money at work and are more likely to take on child-rearing responsibilities. When people are treated unequally because of their gender, the term "discrimination" is used. In Germany, discrimination is also prohibited on the basis of age, disability, origin, religion and sexual identity/orientation.
The Equal Opportunity Office of Emden/Leer University of Applied dIt works to ensure that all genders are treated equally and respected. You probably know the prejudices that boys play with tractors and girls with dolls. Similar prejudices also exist at universities, for example that boys study something technical and girls choose a subject that helps people. s that they help people. But everyone should be able to pursue their own interests, which are just as unique as you are. One of the services offered by the Equal Opportunity Office is the Family Service, which supports students and employees with children or dependents in need of care. There are many different types of families, such as single parents with children, patchwork families or rainbow families.
