Focuses
Lockers
In the corridor in front of the library you will find lockers that can be used with your CamusCard. Coats, bags, etc. are not permitted in the library and should be locked up. To lock the compartments electronically, you initialize your CampusCard at the terminal first and then you can lock the individual compartment. Overnight use is not allowed.

Rules of conduct
Coats, bags and food are not permitted inside the library, transparent water bottles are permitted. Since the library is a place to study and work, we ask for mutual consideration, quiet conversations only in the designated areas and not to make phone calls while being inside the library.

Service Desk
You will find the service desk directly at the entrance on your left.
Here you are able to register as a new library member, reserve a book caddy or a group study room and can collect books you placed a hold on as well as books from the interlibrary loan. In addition, all your questions regarding the library will be answered here.

Textbook Collection
The textbook collection is the only part of the library's print book collection that is located on the ground floor. In the online library catalog this special location is marked as the location “Lehrbuchsammlung”. Every book in the textbook collection is borrowable.
A copy of each title in the textbook collection is not borrowable and has to stay inside the library at all times. This reference copy is located in the open access area and has a yellow dot on the spine.

Periodicals
The periodicals for which we have an ongoing subscription you can find on the ground floor.
You will find the current volume of each periodical in the flap compartment with the most recent issue on the outside of the flap. Older volumes can be found on the upper floors or in the library stack.
Periodicals are not borrowable, but excerpts may be copied or scanned.

Orientation Board
A detailed map of the library is hanging on the wall in between the two staircases that lead to the first floor.
On that map, you can see our different working-atmospheres (silent, quiet and communicative). Furthermore, you can see the topics with the corresponding shelf numbers on it.
Print media is arranged after a specific classification scheme. This allows thematic grouping of similar literature and helps to find relevant information more quickly.

Book Caddies
The library offers a special service for students who are working on their bachelor or master thesis. These students can rent a book caddy to store their borrowed books in it.
These caddies are located behind the staircase on the ground floor. They can be locked and, thanks to the attached wheels, moved to your preferred workspace in the library.

Shelf Arrangement
The media of the library are sorted alphabetically by shelf mark on the shelves. The library catalog shows you the shelf mark of a searched medium. This shelf mark is visible on the spine of the book. The first part of the shelf mark (e.g. PIF) shows you the shelf section in the library, the second part of the shelf mark (e.g. Man) helps you find the specific book within the shelf section. A look on the orientation board on the ground floor will help you find the right shelf.

Books With A Yellow Dot
Books with a yellow dot on the spine are called reference books. These books should be available in the library at all times and therefore are not borrowable.
A copy of each title that is available in the textbook collection always remains in the library and cannot be borrowed. This reference copy is located in the open access area with the same shelf mark and is additionally labelled on the back with a note regarding the textbook collection.
Periodicals, newspapers, loose-leaf collections, historic collections, legislative texts and commentaries, annuals and thesis are also not borrowable.

Course Reserve Collection
In a course reserve collection, lecturers provide selected literature for a specific lecture. This literature is arranged according to the names of the lecturers and cannot be borrowed so that it is available in the library at all times. Books in a course reserve collection are marked as the special location “Semesterapparat” in the online library catalog.

Copyroom
In this room, you will find a copier and a book scanner and you can make copies (while respecting copyright law) without disturbing studying library visitors. The copier is useable with the copy credit on your CampusCard, for the book scanner you will need a USB stick because your scanned pages will solely be saved as a PDF file on the USB stick.

Mediathek
The Mediathek in the central library offers audiovisual media (DVDs, language learning courses etc.), the pedagogic-didactic game collection, psychological tests and theses from the Faculty of Social Work and Health and the course of Studies in Scientific Technology.

Group Study Room (first floor)
The group study room on the first floor is one of three group study rooms that the library offers. A smartboard, flipcharts and magnetic walls that you can write on (special pens can be borrowed at the service desk) are in this room. You can book a group study room for up to three hours per day online via our booking system. You can find more information here.

Reading Gallery
On the floor in between the first floor and the second floor is the reading gallery. Comfortable armchairs and sofas invite you to linger. It is allowed to have quiet conversations on the gallery. Some of the furniture is equipped with USB ports and sockets so that you can charge technical devices.

Group Workstations
On the second floor of the library you will find, in addition to specialist literature and bound periodicals, learning spaces which are particularly suitable for group work. Our group workstations offer enough room for groups and are equipped with big screens that are ideal for working together on presentations. Cables for connecting your own laptop can be borrowed at the service desk.

The group study room on the second floor is one of three group study rooms that the library offers. Parent-Child Room
On the second floor of the library is the parent-child room that can be booked for up to three hours per day at the service desk (keep in mind that reservations have to be made at least at the latest day before you want to use the room). In cooperation with the family service of the university, the room was equipped with children's books, tonies, two large pillows and puzzles.

Sustainable Shelf
In the mission statement of the University of Applied Sciences Emden/Leer, sustainability and social responsibility are given a very high priority. The University Library Emden/Leer does its part to promote and consolidate the sustainable idea - the "Infothek Sustainability - the sustainable shelf". Here you will find concentrated literary knowledge on the topic on the second floor of the Central Library Emden on shelf no.44.
