Your studies in Emden

A small but excellent campus university with around 3,900 students awaits you in Emden – the perfect size for your lecturers to get to know you personally and support you. At the same time, you can pursue your thirst for knowledge undisturbed on your own and explore the special fields that interest you most, for example in our modern library, which has everything – including plenty of space and peace and quiet. So you can concentrate fully on your studies and really enjoy your time with us. 

The seaport city of Emden also offers the ideal conditions for this: you live cheaply, have peace and quiet to learn and can try out many sports in your spare time. Opportunities for sailing, windsurfing and rowing, for example, are just as abundant here as the sand by the sea. And museums, theatres and cinemas are just a stone's throw away.

Founded in 1973 with the Faculties of Social Work and Business Studies, the Emden campus today combines the following areas: Social Work and Health, Technology and Business Studies – with over on 20 Bachelor and 10 Master study programs. The campus currently covers a total area of 90,000 square metres. 

And we are still growing: for example, we are starting the 2019 summer semester with a completely new building: the modular house that offers even more space for events and offices. For you this means even more opportunities for project-based learning in small groups.

Studierende besuchen Laser World of Photonics

Technische Neuheiten und Networking in München

35 Studierende der internationalen Bachelor- und Masterstudiengänge „Engineering Physics“ sowie ein Team des Fachbereichs Technik der Hochschule Emden/Leer haben im Juni die Messe „Laser World of Photonics“ in München besucht. Dank einer großzügigen Zuwendung der IPG Photonics GmbH & Co. KG konnten die Studierenden wertvolle Kontakte knüpfen und Eindrücke für ihre Zukunft in der Photonik gewinnen. 

Auf der Laser World of Photonics stellen mehr als 1300 Unternehmen aus aller Welt ihre neuesten Innovationen und Neuentwicklungen vor. Die Messe findet alle zwei Jahre statt und gilt als wichtiger Treffpunkt für die optische Industrie in Europa. „Viele Absolventinnen und Absolventen, die in den Bereichen Laser und Optik in Engineering Physics oder auch Lasertechnik/Photonik spezialisiert sind, haben dort ihre Karrieren begonnen“, so Dr. Sandra Koch vom Institut für Laser und Optik an der Hochschule Emden/Leer. Bei den Ehemaligentreffen am Rande der Messe biete sich die Gelegenheit, über die persönlichen Berufserfahrungen zu berichten, aber auch Jobs und Abschlussarbeiten zu vermitteln. Das intensive Netzwerken und der Messebesuch half den Studierenden, sich in das breite Feld der Photonik zu integrieren und das Wissen aus ihrem Studium mit Anwendungen aus dem wirklichen Leben zu verbinden. 

„Entdecken und erleben“ lautete die Rückmeldung der Studierenden, die die Exkursion zur Lasermesse als eine großartige Gelegenheit für den Einblick in die zukunftsweisende Anwendung und Forschung der Photonik empfanden. „Die Lasertechnik, die unseren Alltag maßgeblich verändert hat, spielt ebenfalls in den Engineering Physics-Schwerpunkten Erneuerbare Energien, Akustik und Biomedizinische Physik eine entscheidende Rolle“, so Koch. Die Hochschule Emden/Leer und die Universität Oldenburg bilden gemeinsam seit 27 Jahren Bachelor- und Master Studierende aus 100 Ländern in diesem Studiengang aus.
