Borrowing Conditions

At the end of each loan transaction at the self-checkout terminal (only at the branch in Emden) or, by request, at the circulation desk, you will receive a receipt indicating the date due for return. You can also see the due date online in your library account at any time. If you exceed this date without renewing your loan period, we will collect overdue fines from the first day of delay.

Borrowing of media is free of charge for all registered members of the University Library Emden/Leer.

You may borrow a maximum of 20 items.

According to the fee regulation↑ overdue fines are charged for any material that is not returned on or before the due date. Items continue to accrue fines until they are returned or reported as lost. From the first day of delay we charge 2,00 € per volume. You have 5 days to return the loans, otherwise for each volume 5,00 € more will be charged. In the case of the 3rd overdue reminder an additional 10,00 € fine is levelled per volume. Please also refer to article 27 of the Library Regulations↑.

You will receive a due day reminder 3 days prior to the expiration of your loan period to your official university e-mail address. Contract lecturers and technical students (location Leer) as well as external users receive an e-mail to the e-mail address provided during registration.

This notification is a service of the library. We do not guarantee the receipt of the e-mail notification. The due day must be observed.

Renew media

You may renew your loans four times online.

To do this, follow the instructions below: 

  1. Log in to your library account.
  2. Call up the tab «Loans».
  3. Select all items, which you want to renew, with a check mark.
  4. Click on the button «Renew».

The new loan period is displayed.

When you extend your loan period, it is possible that not all your loans can be displayed on one screen. If this is the case, you should repeat the renewal process on the next page again.

  • ... it is an interlibrary loan item,
  • ... it is a book that has been placed on hold by someone else,
  • ... your membership has expired (please renew at the service desk),
  • ... there are charges on your account (please renew via e-mail).

Renewals can also be done locally at your branch and by e-mail ; not by phone.

Your Library Account

Your library account is your personal access to important information and functions in the use of the University Library Emden/Leer and its services. In particular placing holds and renewing of loan periods can only be done after a login to your library account.

To log in to your library account, follow the instructions below:

  1. Open the Library Catalog.
  2. In the catalogue, select «User account» in the top navigation.
  3. In the window that opens, fill in your member number and password.

You can find your member number under the barcode on your CampusCard / Library Card.

The password for your library account is your date of birth in the form DDMMYY, e.g. 310890. If your password is not accepted, we can reset it for you.

In the catalog, borrowed books are marked with the note Ausgeliehen (currently on loan). By using the link ›Vormerken (Place Hold) the item you are interested in will be hold available for you after it has been returned. You will be noticed via e-mail when your holds become available at the circulation desk at your home branch.

To place holds, you must log in with member number and password in your library account.

Blocked library account

Please note that your library account is automatically locked when the amount of the still outstanding fees exceeds a certain limit.

In this case you are no longer allowed to renew your loan periods, to place holds, borrow items or use other services of the University Library Emden/Leer. Therefore, please pay your fines in time before you reach the critical level.

A renewal of overdue media is only possible in person or via e-mail ; not by phone.
