As part of the “Sustainability Certificate for Schools” programme, students from our university go to participating schools in the East Frisia region as environmental ambassadors. Together with the pupils, they initiate and support sustainability projects that are carried out at the school. The project ideas range from a school waste collection, increasing biodiversity on the school grounds, a sustainability rally to setting up a climate station at the school.
The students are trained in teaching climate knowledge and activating groups of pupils in workshops before they go to the schools.
During the cooperation with the Johannes-Althusius-Gymnasium in Emden, the environmental ambassadors Dana Gillaschke (left) and Celina Rosenkranz (right), for example, were given a guided tour of the school, including a petting session with chicken Georgie (centre).
Students who are interested in getting involved are welcome to do so (the activity can be counted toward the university's sustainability certificate course in Component 3). Contact: birte.engelberts(at)hs-emden-leer.de
