The University of Applied Sciences Emden/Leer is working on two thematic complexes in the H2Watt project. On the one hand, the model regions Borkum and Ameland are modelled. The production and supply chain of hydrogen in the Department of Engineering is examined, whereby the CO2 footprint of the entire process is illuminated.

On the other hand, the Department of Maritime Sciences is working on the design and implementation of a hydrogen-based range extender for a small maritime vehicle (water taxi). The project plan provides for the following activities in this implementation project:

  • Market research on available H2 technologies
  • Evaluation and selection of a suitable system in the power range 5-10 kW for a water taxi
  • Test setup and scientific investigation of the selected system in the new Maritime Technical Centre on the Maritime Campus in Leer
  • Evaluation of the results and, based on this, conception for testing the system in a real laboratory on board a water taxi
