Mandatory Modules Winter Semester 2017/18

Computer Sciences

After completing this course students will be able to implement complex projects by using standard libraries. They will have comprehension of standard paradigms and implementation of multi-thread applications. They will have the chance to learn and use standard methods of object orientated software systems in order to develop applications by using IDE.

 

Applied Statistics 

With regard to your future working life, it is important to know how to prepare data informatively and attractively. Applied Statistics will teach you methods in order to acquire, arrange, present and value data. In this course students get the basics of the tool: Statistics. After gaining this knowledge, students will have the following qualifications: Recognitions of statistical assumptions, correct choice of methods for data evaluation and testing of statistical hypothesis and the appraisal and interpretation of statistical reports. 

 

Business Management

Students will understand basic requirements and challenges for running a company in the domestic or international market from the management perspective. Students will be able to identify and analyze various organizational forms of business and know their advantages and disadvantages. By discussing contemporary business cases, students will get familiar with main theories and the ethical, sustainable and social requirements in a company. Human resource management is also a part of the course. By using plenary discussions and group work, students will also train their teamwork and social skills, which trains them for leadership positions.

Elective Modules Winter Semester 2017/18

Production Systems

Production Systems compromises technical elements such as machinery and tools and organizational behavior that includes the management of labor and information flow. Students will gain an insight into practical process and production planning methodologies, production preparation, execution and shop floor management; as well as supportive functions of productive companies.

 

Quality Management

Students will get an understanding of the importance of Quality Management and will estimate the potential of QM-oriented approaches. In addition, the understanding of QM philosophies and QM dominated thinking is an essential part as well as becoming acquainted with QM methods and QM tools. What is more, practice in team-oriented methods and deepening of comprehensive thinking play an important role. Nevertheless, the stabilization of structured, documented work approaches and the strengthening of customer-oriented work approaches are important topics. 

 

Controlling

After having visited this lecture, students will be able to fulfill the main accounting-related tasks of Engineers in technical organizations, such as planning and control. Among others, they will be able to plan capital investments and evaluate investments proposals, they submit yearly budgets for your area of responsibility and interpret reports about it. In case of plan-to-actual deviations, they analyze any reasons for this deviation and they cost products and interpret product-costings. In addition to this, the students will know how different costing-systems will affect key ratios of  work and how that influences decision control. Thus, they will be able to use systems and values of internal accounting for decision making and decision control, and they will be able to evaluate existing procedures of companies.

Introductory Future Studies for Engineers

This course introduces methods and concepts of analyzing the potential of recent scientific-technical developments. Students will examine the legal, economic and social conditions connected with the realization and implementation of these developments. Furthermore, they will analyze anticipatory and globally the potential effects and benefits of recent scientific-technical developments and demonstrate the possibilities of a strategic utilization such as prevention and attenuation of their risks.

Communication & Culture

The students will get to know theories on cultures and intercultural communication and understand the historical genesis of communication differences. The students perceive cultural differences in communication for concrete situations and can reflect, adapt and optimize their own personal behaviour. Students are capable to cope with cultural diversity in given communication settings with focus on business related situations.

Marketing

This module will provide students a fundamental overview of the requirements and contents of modern marketing. This will enable the students to assess and comment on basic marketing issues by using fundamental marketing tools such as the strategic-market-matrix or the BBG product portfolio matrix.

 

Elective Modules Summer Semester 2018

Energy Engineering

Energy Engineering deals with energy efficiency, energy services, plant engineering, environmental compliance and alternative energy technologies. It combines knowledge from the fields of physics, mathematics and chemistry with economic and environmental engineering practices. Students will learn how to apply their skills to increase efficiency and further development of renewable sources of energy. Additionally, they will be able to convert primary energy to usable energy and analyze and optimize these processes.

Innovation Management

Innovation is one of the driving factors of business success. This module conveys in-depth knowledge on modern innovation techniques used in engineering projects and lets students create and present their very own technical innovations. Students are able to explain the significance of an innovation process as the pipeline for new products in business. They can describe typical development stages of engineering projects. Students are proficient in using techniques for creating new ideas and are able to present them in a structured and convincing way. Students gather experience in team work and presentation skills. 

Leadership and Negotiation

Students will learn basics of negotiations and leadership methods in order to identify the social styles and as well as observe how human beings behave in different situations. Skills will ne practically trained to enable students to deal with with different styles and behavior. Regarding negotiation methods, the objective of this course is to shift the negotiation mindset from a competitive in a cooperative mode. The theoretical contact will ne moved into practical exercises which are based on real examples. In relation to leadership, sessions will guide students to lead human beings by applying developed soft skills. 

ERP-Systems

The module ERP-Systems enables students to understand, follow up and apply the basic functions of ERP-systems. Different concepts and approaches for technical and conceptual architecture of these systems will be identified and evaluated for their practical employment. The operational areas and fundamental functions are discussed and the students are able to set up a profile of requirements and conclusions can be drawn concerning the necessary functions of ERP-Systems.

Strategic Management

The importance of strategic management within the global context is brought into focus of the students. In rapidly changing markets with complex and dynamic settings, the strategy process is a success factor not only for a profit-oriented, but also sustainable and socially acceptable management approach.

Intelligent Automation

Students will gain knowledge in the areas of applications in various manufacturing concepts and in flexibility in productions- and automation engineering. Additionally, they will become acquainted with innovative manufacturing according the reference architecture model industry 4.0.The course brings together diverse disciplines in a comprehensive manner, enabling students to develop a meaningful understanding of the complex associations and influences within a topic, thus project-based learning is an essential element.

Furthermore, it is possible to participate in a German language course. The participation is optional, but we would advise every student to have an adequate language level because the German industry normally expects certain language skills in German. Therefore, we recommend attending this course. 

To accompany your studies, we offer an individual and intensive mentoring. From the beginning of your master program until entering the industry and working life, every student will be supported by a professor.
