General

A compact, practical training for the mechanical engineer in 7 semesters: this is what a degree in Mechanical Engineering and Industrial Design offers you in Emden. In the later semesters of study you can specialize in content:

  • Focus on mechanical engineering with plant engineering, design and production technology or
  • Focus on product development and design.


The course in Emden is practical. Fixed components are: a construction proposal, a practical semester, projects and a thesis at the university or in industry. In this course we teach you the basic knowledge of mechanical engineering and industrial design, as well as examples of specialized knowledge. You thus obtain the skills for a successful professional career.

The course offers a special focus on product development and design.

With the focus on product development and design you can choose a specialization that is offered very rarely at German universities. The combination of industrial design and modern methods of product development with mechanical engineering is an attractive alternative. Product development and design is also a very popular course with many young women. The Link women in mechanical engineering show some successful examples.

The more classic course directions of mechanical engineering are also still popular in Emden.

Course Progression

Course Progression
A compact course of 3.5 years including a practical semester abroad or in the industry. The practical semester is integrated into the 5th semester. The thesis is completed in the 7th Semester, either in the university or in industry. Admission requirements is the general higher education entrance qualification (allgemeine Hochschulreife) or the advanced technical college entrance qualification (Fachhochschulreife), general or subject-linked higher education entrance qualification, as well as a 12-week access internship.
