Professional Profile

The graduates of the master degree course in Industrial Informatics are qualified in a wide variety of fields of activity, focusing in particular to the following themes:

  • industrial information and communication technologies,
  • automation engineering,
  • robotics and mechatronics.

Due to the increasing importance of these topics in the area of industrial applications and systems, outstanding career opportunities await the graduates. Employers are specifically, the numerous medium-sized companies and industrial companies in Germany and abroad, who create innovative products and services for a rapidly growing market. 

Degree Course

The master degree course in Industrial Informatics provides a practical training in the area of industrial applications of electrical engineering and computer science. The carefully selected content of this course will ensure a successful entry into the fields of activity, which as a result of the entry of information technologies in the industrial environment are very much in demand. In addition to courses and lectures, students are particularly intensively prepared for self-employment and scientific work by the further deepening projects and accompanying seminars. Often, these topics are derived from current research projects which are normally in cooperation with various companies. This allows the highly trained graduate to secure a position in this growing future-oriented labour market.

Acceptance criteria to the consecutive master degree course in Industrial Informatics include the completion of the bachelor degree program in Electrical Engineering or the bachelor degree program in Computer Science with an above-average final result. Also other equivalent bachelor degrees can - after an individual evaluation – be recognized as an acceptance condition.

For students in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science who hold a 6-semester bachelor degree, a preparation semester will be offered to bridge any failed knowledge, in the amount of 30 ECTS. In accordance with the prior experience and direction of the previous Bachelor program, the preparation semester includes modules of the degree course Electrical Engineering and Computer Science offered by the University of Applied Sciences Emden/Leer.
The content for students from other universities is determined in consultation with the selection committee for the master degree course.

Neu Building Electrical Engineering and Computer Science

The Faculty of Technology offers in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science a coordinated range of ideal supplementary courses of study. Thereby, the dynamic development in the field of information and communication technologies is taken into account and addressed by the systematic updating of this course.

For the master degree course Industrial Informatics, special topics are covered in depth. In the application of electrical engineering and computer science: from automation systems to the robotics and mechatronics, from embedded systems to the modelling and visualization, from network technologies to security concepts.

After the successful completion of the master degree course in Industrial Informatics, the university awards to the academic the degree of Master of Engineering. For particularly competent graduates of Industrial Informatics the possibility is there to embark on a doctoral study program in cooperation with one of our university partners.

The master program itself takes 3 semesters. Together with the bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering  or Computer Science, the consecutive degree program is an entire study period of 5 years.
In the first semester of the masters of Industrial Informatics, the addition of specialist subject areas is necessary, where the acceptance via the bachelor of Electrical Engineering and the bachelor of Computer Science will be differentiated. It is followed by the first deep subject immersion. In the second semester, specific technical themes are further intensified. The course is completed with the master thesis in the third semester.

  • Kurzbeschreibung: Das Master-Studium Industrial Informatics bietet eine praxisnahe Ausbildung im Bereich zwischen Automatisierungsingenieur/-in und Informatiker/-in. Durch die sorgfältig ausgewählten Inhalte des Studiums ist ein erfolgreicher Einstieg ins Berufsleben gewährleistet oder auch die Aufnahme eines Promotionsstudiums möglich.

    Konsekutiver Masterstudiengang: Unter konsekutiven Studiengängen werden inhaltlich aufeinander aufbauende Bachelor- bzw. Master- Studiengänge verstanden. Laut Hochschulrahmengesetz darf die gesamte Regelstudienzeit (als Vollzeitstudium) dieser Studiengänge fünf Jahre nicht überschreiten (optional).
