IPW 2017

In this year’s International Project Week (IPW), which took place from 8th of May 2017 to 12th  of May 2017, the intercultural exchange between the students, members of the University as well as the International Guest Lecturers was in the main focus. We welcomed guests from Spain, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, the Netherlands, Turkey and Ireland. In several lectures, workshops and excursions, the participants learned about different subjects of the international economy. With regard to the linguistically side, the aspect of internationality was rated with a great value. The offer varied between German, Spanish and English speaking events.

For the opening of the International Project Week on Monday, a welcome dinner has been organized at the Upstalsboom Parkhotel. On Tuesday the social program continued with the official formal Dinner in the “Hafenhaus”. The international lecturers as well as members from the University of Applied Sciences received in both events the opportunity to get in touch with each other in a relaxed atmosphere with a nice dinner and good drinks, and to prepare for the following Project Week.

In addition to the lectures and the official social program our international guests had the possibility to explore Emden on their own, e.g. by doing a walk around the Delft or by visiting the state museum and the art gallery.

The highlight of the social program was a visit to small village Greetsiel near the sea, which is famous for its fishery business. Our guests participated in a guided German and English speaking tour through the nice little village with beautiful weather and historical facts of Greetsiel. They enjoyed a special cultural East Frisian experience with a tea time served in the Twin Mills, which is one of the village’s famous landmarks. Afterwards they had the possibility to explore the little village. The guest lecturers had the chance to purchase some souvenirs or just enjoy the beautiful landscape and the ambience of the little harbor.

Of course, the economical aspect of Emden was also an important point during the week and our guests were offerd to visit the premises of Volkswagen in Emden. During a guided tour, everyone gained an interesting insight into the production of Volkswagen cars.

All in all we can look back to a successful International Project Week 2017.  In addition to a great and interesting cultural exchange, our students enjoyed high-quality lectures with a high number of participants. We are looking forward to our upcoming International Project Week 2018 and hope to welcome again this year’s lecturers as well as new international guests.

IPW 2016

EEZ

Hafenhaus

Come rain or shine, the IPW is taking place!

The “International Project Week” (IPW) took place from April 25th to 29th 2016 under adverse weather conditions. But the sunny disposition of our guest lecturers from Great Britain, Ireland, Lithuania, Netherlands, Hungary and Romania put everyone at the IPW into a good mood. Their projects came as a fresh breeze in our everyday life of our students. A special sunny regard was sent by a guest lecturer from Spain for the first time via video conference.

The other eleven participants took part on our diverse social program, which started with a welcome dinner at Henri´s. Over refreshments and thanks to the casual atmosphere everyone got the opportunity to get to know each other and exchange experiences. The conversations continued on the following evening during the formal dinner at Hafenhaus. On top of that the IPW was enriched by the participation by the guests of the international conference, which was organized by Prof. Dr. Reiner Osbild and took place at the same time.

Between the projects they had the opportunity to explore Emden on their own and therefore visited the Kunsthalle and the Landesmuseum. The exhibition “Vitaminbombe” invited to strengthen one´s immune system on a different level.

The highlight of our IPW was the excursion to the “Energie-, Bildungs- und Erlebniszentrum” (EEZ) in Aurich. During a guided tour we got to know more about the EEZ and later enjoyed some of the games in the interactive exhibition about energy.

After “playing” for a little while and some more sightseeing of the city of Aurich, we went to the local restaurant Stadtperle. With a lot of information and good impressions from Emden, Aurich and the IPW most of the participants started back for home or were finishing up their projects.

We´re already looking forward to the further exchange with new guest lecturers and “repeaters” during the IPW 2017!

“For my first visit to Germany, this was a great event, both in terms of teaching experience and intercultural exchange. Even if the weather showed us that we were in Northern Europe, the international faculty office staff made from our visit a very warm and friendly event.“ Bogdan Nichifor (University of Bacau, Romania)

„A great learning opportunity for both students and teaching staff who were able to use the week to exchange ideas and experience different ways of working.  It’s very valuable to have a full week where colleagues from all over Europe can visit, giving time and space for networking and sharing ideas between us all as well as teaching and meeting the students in Emden.“ Angela McGrane (Newcastle Business School/Northumbria University)

International Project Week 2014

For already over ten years the Faculty of Business annually invites guest lecturers from our European partner institutions to the ”International Project Week“ (IPW) during the spring semester. This year 15 lecturers from Ireland, Poland, Spain, France, Latvia, Lithuania, Romania and Russia followed the invitation and found their way to the seaport city from May 5th to 9th 2014. After thorough preparation the Team of the International Faculty Office Business Studies came up with an exciting and fun social programme. Special focus was on getting to know the partners‘ study programme offers, exchange of experience in the different fields and connecting on a personal level. The international projects were met with strong interest by the students. The projects in English, French and Spanish about “Doing business in Poland“, ”The importance of whistleblowers“, ”Les pratiques de GRH et le code du travail en France“, ”Responsabilidad Corporativa y Innovacion“, “Operations Management: History to Horsemeat“ oder “Business specifics in the Baltic countries, Ukraine and Russia“ and further fascinating topics offered a glimpse of international lectures and the opportunity to learn more about studying abroad at the partner institutions.  Additionally, students could get involved in the IPW as “buddies“ of  the lecturers and contributed to the success of the IPW.

The projects were completed by a broad social programme, which lead our guests to a convivial get-together at Henri´s, the Official Dinner at Hafenhaus, the „Kunsthalle“ and „Ostfriesisches Landesmuseum“ in Emden,  to the seal raising station (Seehundstation) in Norddeich following a final dinner at Regina Maris. Further highlights were the exciting visit to the co-generating power plant operated with woodchips of the Stadtwerke Norden as well as an unforgettable behind-the-scene of the indoor water park Ocean Wave. But the seals were by far the most adorable sight to see.

For all participants it was a very special week with a laid-back and cordial atmosphere. This is why saying goodbye after a few days was hard for everybody.  Some testimonies by guest lecturers:

„Each person who participated in the organizational team invested a part of her/his heart and soul in the event.” (Andrejs Limanskis, Lettland)

„Participating in the Emden IPW 2014 was a very enjoyable, interesting and stimulating experience. I learned a lot from my visit and look forward to meeting with Team IPW in future years.”

It was a very successful week for participants and the Team IPW, which we aspire to be repeated in the next year!

In the spring semester 2014 a new IHK campaign was published with one student from Latvia and one student from the Netherlands (see article here).

In the spring semester 2013 a third IHK campaign was set in motion with two students from Poland (see article here) who were successfully facilitated with an internship in a local company.

In the spring semester 2012 a second IHK campaign was launched with Erasmus students from Spain and Ireland/Lithuania. This year's campaign was already published in the May edition of Wirtschaft Ostfriesland & Papenburg (more about that here).
