Meet our Students

Haimanti Mukherjee, Indien, Alumni

Where are you from and which/where is your Home University?

I am an Electrical Engineer from the beautiful city of Joy Kolkata. I completed my Bachelor of Technology from "West Bengal University of Technology" and then finished my Masters´ Degree from "Jadavpur University".

Are you an international exchange-students or an international degree-student and how long have you been at the University of Applied Sciences Emden/Leer?

I am an international Degree at the University of Applied Sciences Emden/Leer pursuing Master of Engineering and have been here since February 2012.

What is your field of study and in which semester are you in?

I am currently prusuing Masters´degree in Technical Management and I am just about to finish my first semester.

Why did you chosse the University of Applied Sciences Emden/Leer for your study period abroad?

There are different reasons for chossing Emden for doing my international Masters´Degree in Germany. The course offered here as Technical Management is really well structured for the Engineers and technicalpeople who like to work in the managment field with challenges. There is a nice balance of Management and Technical courses. Technical Management offered here is for 3 semesters with Masters´Thesis. It is just 1 semester longer than UK Universities with similar course  curriculum with a lot different friendly environment.

What do you especially like about the University of Applied Sciences Emden/Leer?

The international atmosphere and the supportive nature of the professors made our studies interesting. Also the practical approach helps us to develop better understanding to the topics besides the theoretical matter. All the professors and other people in the University are really helpful to all International students giving attention to the need of each student. Also the professors here are closely related to industry Projects so that brings us close to the German Market.

Do you have any suggestions or recommendations for prospective international students?

As Emden is situated near to the sea it has a very pleasant weather suitabke for people from Asia and due to its sunny days you can enjoy a lot of time outside your room. Living in Emden is not as expensive as the big cities in Germany. In University normally everyone speaks English but to stay in Germany and specially in Emden the local people are really nice to interact with. But generally they only speak German. So it is really good idea to have at least the basic knowledge of Germa  (A1) and it´s always better while studying you try to improve your German to B1.

Do you have any adivce or hints about living in Emden/East Freesia?

As Emden is not a big city so it is really better to search for a room to stay either in student dorms or in private accommodation before arriving to Emden. The travelling experience is really nice being in thi region with the Semester ticket as you can travel for free to lot of big cities like Bremen and Hamburg. Doing biking tours in summer, spending time in the beaches which are nea to Emden, doing boating in the canals of Emden or just in an hour it´s possible to visit small Islands by just hiking to those Islands like baltrum really gives a different experience than staying in a big city in Germany.
