Bariscan Yapici, Türkei, Alumni

Where are you from and which/where is your Home University?

I am from Turkey and completed my Bachelor Study at Yildiz Technical University of Istanbul.

Are you an international exchange-student or an international degree-student and how long have you been at the University of Applied Sciences?

I am an international degree-student, have been at the University of Applied Sciences Emden/Leer for more then one year.

What is your field of study and in which semester are you in?

I am doing my master of Engineering in Technical Management and this is my 3rd year and final semester.

Why did you choose the University of Applied Sciences Emden/Leer for your study period aborad?

I chose the University of Applied Sciences Emden/Leer for my abroad study due to the fact that the Master degree Technical Management was only offered by this University in Germany.

What do you especially like about the University of Applied Sciences Emden/Leer?

What I really like about the University of Applied Sciences Emden/Leer is that there are plenty of sport acitivities and trainings offered in cooperation with AStA and several organizations in Emden. The friendliness of the International Office Team is worth mentioning as well.

Do you have any suggestions or recommendations for prospective international students?

I would suggest them to carry a semesterplanner when they´re at the campus, you never know what kind of an offer you may see at the boards and walls at the university. In order to maintain your network at the campus, the international courses offered by the business department are good opportunity to learn new topics and also new people. The International evenings are best events to get to know new culture, food and people. Although Emden is a small city, almost every night there is something going on in a bar, theater, disco or even on campus sometimes. The way to learning German and creating social networks on/off campus is looking for every opportunity and quitting being shy to try new things.

Do you have any advice or hints about living in Emden/East Freesia?

It is possible to see a new free room offer at the boards of the university. Incase you can´t get a room in student dormitories don´t worry about it. The semester ticket is enabling students to travel within Niedersachsen, which includes cities like Bremen, Hamburg and Hannover those worth seing East Freesia also have interesting sightseeing such as Norderney, Leer and Wilhelmshaven. Festivals in Emden and Groningen are good options in summertime. Finally the airport at Bremen is a gate to other cities for good prices.
